The FitzHerberts, descended from the Norman family of Norbury Hall, acquired Tissington by the marriage of Nicholas FitzHerbert to Ciceley Frauncis, heiress of Tissington, in 1465. Tissington Hall is situated 2 miles southeast of Church Farm.
