Red Fort, Delhi

The Red Fort is a historic Mughal fort located in the Old Delhi area of Delhi, India. Serving as the main residence of the Mughal emperors, it was commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan on the 12th of May 1639; the fort was constructed following his decision to shift the Mughal capital from Agra to Delhi. Red Fort, Delhi is situated 760 metres southeast of Lothian Cemetery.

The Lahori Gate is the main entrance to the Red Fort in Old Delhi. The fort is approached through a covered street flanked by arcaded apartments called the Chhatta Chowk. Lahori Gate is situated 660 metres south of Lothian Cemetery.

Salimgarh Fort

Salimgarh Fort was built in 1546 CE in Old Delhi, on what was then an island of the Yamuna River, by Salim Shah Suri, the son of Sher Shah Suri. The fort was constructed during a period when the Mughal Empire had been temporarily overthrown; in 1540 CE, Sher Shah Suri had defeated the Mughal emperor Humayun and established the rule of the Sur Empire rule in Delhi. Salimgarh Fort is situated 610 metres east of Lothian Cemetery.
