Chawton House is a Grade II* listed manor house in Hampshire on the South side of Chawton village, and the present building was started in 1580. In the late 18th century it belonged to Edward Austen Knight, a wealthy brother of the novelist Jane Austen.

It is a writer's house museum occupying the 17th-century house in which novelist Jane Austen spent the last eight years of her life, during which time she wrote, revised and made ready to be published all six of her novels, and the fragment Sanditon. Jane Austen’s House Museum is situated 1,800 feet north of Church of St Nicholas.
