It lies on the north-eastern edge of Cannock Chase next to the River Trent; it is eight miles north of Lichfield, 10 miles southeast of Stafford, five miles northeast of Hednesford and 11 miles southwest of Uttoxeter. Rugeley is situated 1½ miles south of Colton House.
