The station was opened in 1865 by the Alton, Alresford and Winchester Railway and operated as part of the London and South Western Railway and later Southern Railway and the Southern Region of British Railways until its closure in 1973. Old Alresford House is an 18th-century Georgian country house in Old Alresford, Hampshire, England. It is a Grade II* listed building. It was built between 1749 and 1751 for Admiral Lord Rodney on a gently sloping south facing site between the village churchyard and Alresford Pond, paid for by the riches accrued in a successful naval career fighting the French in the Caribbean. Old Alresford House is situated 1,800 feet northeast of Watercress Beds.
