It is also known as the "Town of the Imperiali", referring to the Imperiali family, a noble lineage of feudal lords who ruled the area from the late 16th century until the 18th century. Francavilla Fontana is situated 8 km southwest of Chiesa di San Francesco ‘Alla Sardedda’.
