The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant is a nuclear power plant undergoing decommissioning. ChNPP is located near the abandoned city of Pripyat in northern Ukraine, 16.5 kilometres northwest of the city of Chernobyl, 16 kilometres from the Belarus–Ukraine border, and about 100 kilometres north of Kyiv. Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant is situated 390 metres east of New Safe Confinement.

Pripyat, also known as Prypiat, is an abandoned industrial city in Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine, located near the border with Belarus. Named after the nearby river, Pripyat, it was founded on 4 February 1970 as the ninth atomgrad, a type of closed city in the Soviet Union that housed nuclear workers. Pripyat is situated 3½ km northwest of New Safe Confinement.

Kopachi is a former village near Chernobyl, Ukraine, just south-west of the Pripyat River Basin. After the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, the village was contaminated by fallout and subsequently evacuated and is now within the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone; thus it has been abandoned since 1986. Kopachi is situated 5 km southeast of New Safe Confinement.
