It serves as an interchange between the Airport, Armadale, Ellenbrook, Fremantle, Midland, and Thornlie–Cockburn lines as well as Transwa's Australind service. Perth railway station is situated 140 metres north of Forrest Chase.

Built in stages, the hotel originally opened around 1844 as the Commercial Hotel, "an unpretentious two storey building with a shingle roof".
