The Brazilian Academy of Letters is a Brazilian literary non-profit society established at the end of the 19th century. The first president, Machado de Assis, declared its foundation on 15 December 1896, with the by-laws being passed on 28 January 1897. Brazilian Academy of Letters is situated 460 metres northeast of Passeio Público.

The Carioca Aqueduct, also known as Arcos da Lapa, is an aqueduct in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The aqueduct was built in the middle of the 18th century to bring fresh water from the Carioca River to the population of the city. Carioca Aqueduct is situated 340 metres west of Passeio Público.
