Philadelphia Naval Shipyard

The Philadelphia Naval Shipyard was the first United States Navy shipyard and was historically important for nearly two centuries. Construction of the original Philadelphia Naval Shipyard began during the American Revolution in 1776 at Front and Federal Streets in what is now the Pennsport section of Philadelphia. Philadelphia Naval Shipyard is situated 1,500 feet east of Building 69.

It was built in 1874–1875, and is a three-story, painted brick dwelling in the Italian Villa-style. Commandant’s Quarters is situated 3,600 feet northeast of Building 69.
