It is naturally protected by a sharp meander in the River Sûre which surrounds the town and the castle on three sides. Esch-sur-Sûre Castle is situated 1 km northeast of Poste Esch-sur-Sûre.

Esch-sur-Sûre Dam

The Esch-sur-Sûre Dam is an arch dam on the River Sauer just upstream of Esch-sur-Sûre in the Wiltz canton of Luxembourg. The primary purpose of the dam and its reservoir, Upper Sûre Lake, is to provide municipal water supply and hydroelectric power generation. Esch-sur-Sûre Dam is situated 720 metres north of Poste Esch-sur-Sûre.
