Wooler is a town in , on a lowland route into Scotland that skirts the , with a population of 2000 in 2021. "Situated in an ill-cultivated country under the influence of vast mountains, from whence it is subject to impetuous rains" was the Norman conquerors' dismal assessment of it in 1107.
