Minu Island is in Khorramshahr County of Khuzestan province in the Persian Gulf, in southwestern Iran. The island is between the cities of Abadan and Khorramshahr. Minu District, which includes the city of Minushahr, is nearly co-extensive with the island. Minoo Island is situated 3½ km northeast of Najm-e Divan.

Abadan is a city of 230,000 people in Khuzestan, in the southwest of Iran. It is a port city and oil refining center. During the 1980 Iran-Iraq war, the city was emptied of people and heavily damaged.
