Istakhr was an ancient city in Fars province, 5 kilometres north of Persepolis in southwestern Iran. It flourished as the capital of the Persian Frataraka governors and Kings of Persis from the third century BC to the early 3rd century AD.

Naqsh-e Rostam is an ancient archeological site and necropolis located about 13 km northwest of Persepolis, in Fars province, Iran. A collection of ancient Iranian rock reliefs are cut into the face of the mountain and the mountain contains the final resting place of four Achaemenid kings, notably king Darius the Great and his son, Xerxes. Naqsh-e Rostam is situated 3½ km west of Takht-e Ţāvūs.

Naqsh-e Rajab is an archaeological site west of Istakhr and about 5 km north of Persepolis in Fars province, Iran. Together with Naqsh-e Rostam, which lies 2.5 kilometres away, the site is part of the Marvdasht cultural complex which itself is a tentative candidate for World Heritage Site status. Naqsh-e Rajab is situated 2½ km southwest of Takht-e Ţāvūs.
