Ovda Airport was the former civilian part of the Ovda Israeli Air Force Base in the Uvda region of southern Israel, about 40 km north of Eilat. It was the country's second international airport. Ovda Airport is situated 3 km west of Naẖal Shaẖarut.

Uvda is the name of a region in the southern Naqab desert, directly north of Eilat. The name derives from the Hebrew word uvda. The region was occupied during Operation Uvda in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War when the IDF invaded the area with the stated aim of establishing 'facts on the ground', hence the name.
