The Caves of Nahal Me’arot / Wadi el-Mughara, named here by the Hebrew and Arabic name of the valley where they are located, are a UNESCO Site of Human Evolution in the Carmel mountain range near Haifa in northern Israel. Nahal Mearot is situated 3½ km northwest of Kerem Maharal.

Ayn Ghazal was a Palestinian Arab village located 21 kilometers south of Haifa. Depopulated during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War as a result of an Israeli military assault during Operation Shoter, the village was then completely destroyed. Ayn Ghazal is situated 2½ km southwest of Kerem Maharal.
