Kilis is a city in southernmost Turkey, near the border with Syria, and the administrative centre of Kilis Province and Kilis District. Its population is 112,187. On 6 February 2023 Kilis was badly affected by the twin Turkey-Syria earthquakes.

In late 19th century, German orientalist Martin Hartmann listed the village as a settlement of 7 houses inhabited by Turks. Doğançay is situated 4½ km northwest of Öncüpınar.
