The Tree of Hippocrates is the plane tree under which, according to legend, Hippocrates of Kos taught his pupils the art of medicine. Paul of Tarsus purportedly taught here as well.

The Temple of Asclepius or Asclepieion of Kos was one of the most famous temples dedicated to Asclepius in the ancient world. The archeologist Rudolf Herzog, grandfather of Werner Herzog excavated it in 1902, as the latter recounted in conversation with Paul Holdengräber. Kos Asklepieion is situated 4½ km west of Platýs Réma.
