Starorussky District is an administrative and municipal district, one of the twenty-one in , . It is located in the southwest of the oblast and borders with in the east, and in the southeast, in the southwest, in the west, and with in the northwest.

The Transfiguration Monastery is a former Russian Orthodox monastery founded in 1192. The monastery is located in the city of , on the right bank of the Polist River. It is currently occupied by the Staraya Russa Town Museum.
