The Center of Saint Petersburg is the area of main interest to the traveler, home to most attractions of the metropolis. It's bounded by the Neva river and the Obvodny Canal, on a set of islands formed by numerous rivers and channels.
Nenetsia

Nenetsia is a far flung region in Northwestern Russia on the Barents Sea, which borders Arkhangelsk Oblast to the southwest, Komi Republic to the south, and Yamalia to the east. The region is adjacent to the large Arctic islands of Novaya Zemlya.

Leningrad Oblast

Leningrad Oblast is a region of Northwestern Russia named for the old name of its principal city, Leningrad, now known as Saint Petersburg. It borders Pskov Oblast to the southwest, Estonia and the Gulf of Finland to the west, Finland to the northwest, Karelia and Lake Ladoga to the north, Vologda Oblast to the east, and Novgorod Oblast to the south.

Karelia is a region in Northwestern Russia, known as the country of lakes. It has a strong cultural connection with Finland, with the ethnic Karelians closely related to the Finns. Much of the Finnish national epic Kalevala was collected here.

Murmansk Oblast is the northernmost region of northwestern Russia, on the Kola Peninsula, which borders Finland's Lapland to the west, Norway's Finnmark Region to the northwest, the Barents Sea to the north, the White Sea to the southeast, and Karelia to the south.
