Roodeplaat Nature Reserve is located on the shores of the Roodeplaat Dam, 22 km north-east of Pretoria, Gauteng. In 1972 the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry delegated the management of the Roodeplaat Dam area to the Nature Conservation division of the Transvaal Provincial Administration. Roodeplaat Nature Reserve is situated 3½ km west of Edendalspruit.

Roodeplaat Dam is a concrete arch dam situated in South Africa on the Pienaars River, a tributary of the Crocodile River, which flows northwards into the Limpopo River. Roodeplaat Dam is situated 3 km northwest of Edendalspruit.
