Kamunting was also the southern terminus of the KTM Komuter Northern Sector before it was moved to Padang Rengas in July 2016 and subsequently Ipoh in 2023. Kamunting is situated 1½ km north of Kamunting.

Malaysia's first railway station was situated in Taiping and was opened in 1885 when the Taiping-Port Weld Railway Line, Malaysia's first, was opened. Taiping is situated 4 km southeast of Kamunting.

Town
Kamunting is a town in Larut, Matang and Selama District, Perak, Malaysia. It is the biggest satellite town of Taiping. During the Malayan Emergency between 1948 and 1960, Kamunting was the site of a major British/Commonwealth military base, there being a large garrison for the 28th Commonwealth Independent Infantry Brigade and also one of the three British Military Hospitals in Malaya.
