Moina is a town 45 km inland from on the north-west coast of , . Moina was the site of a brief gold rush in the late nineteenth century and then one of the largest wolfram and bismuth mines in Tasmania.

Completed in 1970, the resultant , Lake Gairdner, was established for the purpose of generation of hydroelectricity via the adjacent Wilmot Power Station, a run-of-the-river hydroelectric power station. is situated 2½ km southeast of Moina.
