Hobart is the capital city of Tasmania and is Australia's second oldest city, after Sydney. Hobart sits along the Derwent River and began humbly as a penal colony.

Launceston is the second-largest city in Tasmania and provides a base to explore the northern part of the state. The city was settled in 1805 and has a population of 87,645, making it Australia's fifth-largest inland city.

Southern Tasmania is often an alternative name for Hobart and surrounds in the island state of Tasmania. Southern Tasmania can be an entry point for many who travel by air to Hobart, where the airport is known as Hobart International Airport.
