Smilde is a town in the Netherlands' northern province of Drenthe and lies about 10 kilometers southwest of the province capital of Assen. Smilde was a separate municipality until 1998, when it became a part of Middenveld.

Hijkersmilde is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Midden-Drenthe, and lies about 13 km southwest of Assen. Between 1913 and 1933, it had a train station. Hijkersmilde is situated 3 km southwest of Kylotsbos.
