On January 1, 2025, it fused with the municipalities of Beveren and Kruibeke to form the new municipality of Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht, which resulted in it moving from the province of Antwerp to that of East Flanders. Zwijndrecht is situated 2½ km southeast of Het Rot Zwarte Reed.
