Fort Halifax

Fort Halifax is a former British outpost on the banks of the Sebasticook River, just above its mouth at the Kennebec River, in Winslow, Maine. Originally built as a wooden palisaded fort in 1754, during the French and Indian War, only a single blockhouse survives. Fort Halifax is situated 2½ miles west of Town of Winslow.

Developed most intensively in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this area was the center of commerce for Waterville and the surrounding rural communities. Waterville Main Street Historic District is situated 3 miles northwest of Town of Winslow.
