Mount Lofty is the highest point in the southern Mount Lofty Ranges. It is located about 15 km east of the Adelaide city centre, within the Cleland National Park in the Adelaide Hills area of South Australia. Mount Lofty is situated 4 km west of Mount Carey.

Mount Bonython is one of two major peaks in the Adelaide Hills visible from Adelaide. The other, about a kilometre to the south and some 50 m higher, is Mount Lofty. Mount Bonython is situated 3½ km west of Mount Carey.

First opened in 1977, the crescent-shaped Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is situated on 100 hectares on the eastern slopes of Mount Lofty in the Adelaide Hills east of Adelaide in South Australia. Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is situated 4 km southwest of Mount Carey.

However it also sits at the centre of a larger population catchment of rural townships which include Summertown, Piccadilly, Ashton, Basket Range, Carey Gully, Norton Summit and Cherryville.

Summertown is a town in the Adelaide Hills region of South Australia. It adjoins Uraidla. At the 2016 census, Summertown had a population of 676. Although technically ending along Greenhill Road directly at the Police House, further on is Summertown's Elderly Home, giving further confusion to the actual placement of the town's borders.
