Unst is the most northerly inhabited island of the Shetland Islands, north of mainland Scotland, with a population of 632 in 2011. Life here was traditionally based on herring fishing: the herring now are sparse but small-scale fishing continues, along with sheep farming.

Burrafirth is a settlement on the island of Unst, Shetland, Scotland. It separates the fjord Burra Firth from the Loch of Cliff. Burrafirth is said to have once been home to a giant called Saxi, who, together with another giant, was lured away by a mermaid.

Baltasound is the largest settlement on the island of Unst in Shetland, Scotland. Unst is the most northerly inhabited island in the United Kingdom. The village lies halfway along the island's east coast on a sheltered bay called Balta Sound.
