The name Quinag is an anglicisation of the Gaelic name Cuinneag, a milk pail, reflecting its distinctive shape. Quinag is situated 2½ miles southeast of Cnoc Clais Ardbhair.

An Dun stands on an isolated rock at the south end of Loch Ardbhair, a sea inlet, and on its eastern shore, about 100 foot from the mainland, to which it is connected by a rough causeway of boulders, now part displaced. An Dun is situated 1½ miles west of Cnoc Clais Ardbhair.

It takes its name from Caolas Cumhann, Gaelic for "narrow strait", which is the channel just to the west of the village that connects Loch Glencoul and Loch Glendubh to Loch a' Chàirn Bhàin. Kylesku is situated 2½ miles east of Cnoc Clais Ardbhair.
