Moniaive is a village in the Parish of Glencairn, in Dumfries and Galloway, southwest Scotland. It stands on the Cairn and Dalwhat Waters, 16 miles north-west of the town of Dumfries. Moniaive is situated 5 miles northeast of Holmhead.

Balmaclellan is a small hillside village of stone houses with slate roofs in a fold of the Galloway hills in south-west Scotland. To the west, across the Ken River, the larger and more prosperous New Galloway lies below the Rhinns of Kells. Balmaclellan is situated 5 miles southwest of Holmhead.
