East Cairn Hill is a hill in the Pentland Hills range of Scotland. With a height of 567 m, it is the highest hill in the City of Edinburgh council area and is located on the western flank of the approximately 20 mi long chain of hills.

Harperrig Reservoir is a reservoir in West Lothian, Scotland, to the north of the Pentland Hills, four miles south of Mid Calder. The Water of Leith flows through it, and nearby are Harlaw Reservoir and Threipmuir Reservoir. Harperrig Reservoir is situated 2 miles west of Mid Hill.

Nine Mile Burn is a hamlet in Midlothian, Scotland, the last in Midlothian when heading south on the A702 road. It is located at the foot of the Pentland Hills, near Penicuik and about 2 km north-east of the village of Carlops. Nine Mile Burn is situated 3½ miles southeast of Mid Hill.

Balerno is a village on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Scotland situated 8 miles south-west of the city centre, next to Currie and then Juniper Green. Traditionally in the county of Midlothian it now administratively falls within the jurisdiction of the City of Edinburgh Council. Balerno is situated 4 miles northeast of Mid Hill.
