Umbrail Pass is a high mountain pass on the Italy–Switzerland border, connecting Santa Maria in Val Müstair with Bormio in the Adda valley. On the Italian side, it connects to the Stelvio Pass road and the Valtellina.

The Stelvio Pass is a mountain pass in northern Italy bordering Switzerland at an elevation of 2,757 m above sea level. It is the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps, and the second highest in the Alps, 7 m below France's Col de l'Iseran. Stelvio Pass is situated 3 km east of Piano della Terza Cantoniera.

Piz Umbrail is a mountain of the Ortler Alps, south of the Umbrail Pass, located on the border between Lombardy and Graubünden. The mountain surface is partly of rubble and partly covered by grass, and therefore of little interest to mountaineers, but its proximity to the Umbrail Pass and accessible surface make it a popular destination for other visitors.

In 2009 Santa Maria Val Müstair merged with Lü, Müstair, Fuldera, Tschierv and Valchava to form the municipality of Val Müstair. Santa Maria Val Müstair is situated 7 km north of Piano della Terza Cantoniera.
