It lies just off the SS 3 highway, the successor to the ancient Roman Via Flaminia, between Gualdo Tadino, Sigillo;Fabriano and Gubbio in Antiquity, a branch of the Via Flaminia may have traversed the town. Fossato di Vico is situated 8 km northwest of Chiavellara.
