It is not the location of Milefortlet 1, the first milefortlet to the west of Hadrian's Wall, which is located on the coast overlooking the Solway Firth at Biglands House Farm, about a mile to the west of Bowness-on-Solway and just to the south of Herdhill Scar.

Aikhead is a hamlet in Cumbria, England, within the Lake District. It is about one and a half miles northwest of Wigton, and is in the civil parish of Woodside. The hamlet was the residence of John Rooke, an English geologist. Aikhead is situated 1½ miles south of Eskrigg.
