Gezira is a district of modern Cairo that occupies the southern portion of the main island in the Nile within Cairo itself; in fact, gezira means "island" in Arabic.

Cairo Tower

The Cairo Tower is a free-standing concrete tower in Cairo, Egypt. It was completed in 1961. At 187 m, it was the tallest structure in Egypt for 37 years until 1998, when it was surpassed by the Suez Canal overhead powerline crossing. Cairo Tower is situated 800 metres northeast of Al Gala‘ Square.
