11th arrondissement

The 11th Arrondissement is home to two quite different but equally blossoming centres of Parisian nightlife. The streets just northwest of Place de la Bastille are full of little bars which attract a mix of young suburban Parisians, expats, and foreigners.

The Bastille was a medieval fortress in , known as the Bastille Saint-Antoine. It played an important role in the internal conflicts of France and for most of its history was used as a state prison by the kings of France.

The 20th arrondissement of lies to the east of the centre and represents an old working-class area now in rapid transformation. The main drawing card here for tourists is the , though, for travellers who are interested in music and culture, this relatively gritty area is probably going to be one of your main night-crawling areas.

Theater building
The is a theatre located at 50 Boulevard Voltaire in the 11th arrondissement of , France. Designed in 1864 by the architect Charles Duval, its name refers to Ba-ta-clan, an operetta by Jacques Offenbach.

A quieter part of the ancient Marais neighbourhood which is centred in the , the 3rd is possibly one of the best places to live in . There are several good open air markets and lots of great local designer clothing stores.

The of lies to the east of the centre and represents an old working-class area now in rapid transformation. The main drawing card here for tourists is the Père-Lachaise Cemetery, though, for travellers who are interested in music and culture, this relatively gritty area is probably going to be one of your main night-crawling areas.

The 4th is a good chunk of what used to be medieval Paris, and you'll find a lot left from that time on both islands and in the narrow streets of the lower Marais.
