Beit Shemesh is a city in the Shfela region of Israel, with a population of 119,000. Excluding the West Bank, Beit Shemesh is the closest city to Jerusalem.

Modi'in is a relatively new Israeli city located in the Shfela, halfway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. There are some archaeological sites in the city as well as popular tourist attractions nearby.

Beth Guvrin or Beit Guvrin is a national park located in south-central Israel, in the Shfela region. It is a particularly good place to visit in summer, because its caves are cool and shady even when it's scorching outside.
