Irene is a village of 2,700 people on the outskirts of Centurion in Tshwane, South Africa. It is south of Pretoria. Irene is known for having been a home to the South African statesman and military leader Jan Smuts, and as the site of a concentration camp where the British imprisoned Boer women and children during the Second Anglo-Boer War.
