The Yangon Zoo is the oldest and the second largest zoo in Myanmar. Located immediately north of downtown Yangon near Kandawgyi Lake, the 70-acre recreational park also includes a museum of natural history, an aquarium and an amusement park. Yangon Zoological Gardens is situated 4,200 feet southeast of Shwedagon Paya.

The National Museum of Myanmar, located in Dagon, Yangon, is the major one of the two national museums for Burmese art, history and culture in Myanmar. National Museum is situated 1 mile southwest of Shwedagon Paya.

The People's Square and Park is one of the major parks surrounding the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Myanmar. Located west of the great pagoda to the former Pyithu Hluttaw complex, the 135.72 acre park is bounded by Pyay Road to its west, U Wisara Road to its east, Dhammazedi Road to its north and Ahlone Road to its south. People’s Square and Park is situated 2,500 feet west of Shwedagon Paya.
