Merchiston Tower, also known as Merchiston Castle, was probably built by Alexander Napier, the 2nd Laird of Merchiston, around 1454. It serves as the seat for Clan Napier. Merchiston Tower is situated 380 feet southwest of Napier House.

Church Hill Theatre is a Category B listed pink sandstone former church and current theatre venue owned by the Edinburgh City Council. Built originally as Morningside Free Church, the council purchased it in 1960. Church Hill Theatre is situated 730 feet southeast of Napier House.

There has been a royal castle on the rock since the reign of Malcolm III in the 11th century, and the castle continued to be a royal residence until 1633. Edinburgh Castle is situated 1¼ miles northeast of Napier House.
