The adjective Grande distinguishes this church from the San Simeone Piccolo, which was smaller in size until its 18th-century reconstruction. San Simeone Profeta is situated 110 metres north of Palazzo Soranzo Cappello.

The Ponte degli Scalzi, is one of only four bridges in Venice to span the Grand Canal. The bridge connects the sestieri of Santa Croce and Cannaregio. On the north side, Cannaregio, are the Chiesa degli Scalzi and the Santa Lucia railway station. Ponte degli Scalzi is situated 200 metres northwest of Palazzo Soranzo Cappello.
