The Margate Caves are a tourist attraction in Margate. The caves were originally dug as a chalk mine in the area between Margate and Cliftonville. The caves were opened as Victorian seaside attraction in 1863 under the fictional name The Vortigern Caves. Margate Caves is situated 360 feet north of Deaf Centre.

The Shell Grotto is an ornate subterranean passageway shell grotto in Margate, Kent, England. Almost all the surface area of the walls and roof is covered in mosaics created entirely of seashells, totalling about 2,000 square feet of mosaic, or 4.6 million shells.
