Desborough Island

Desborough Island is a 112-acre manmade island in the River Thames on the reach above Sunbury Lock in Surrey, England. It was formed in the 1930s by the digging of a channel – the Desborough Cut – by the Thames Conservancy as a meander cutoff of narrow width on the right bank.

A church is believed to have stood on the site since the 7th century AD, though the majority of the present stone and flint building is thought to date from 1614, with the brick bell tower added in 1714.
