It was often the welcoming beacon to persons returning to England, where on a clear night, the reflected light could be seen 100 mi away. Lizard Lighthouse is situated 3,200 feet east of Man of War.

Cadgwith has long been popular as a holiday destination, especially during the summer when there are numerous local events: gig racing days, summer barbecues, a regatta, Morris dancing, musical bands, and regular singing by the Cadgwith Singers in the public house.
