It was formerly known as the Selangor Club Padang, or simply the Padang, and was used as the cricket green of the Selangor Club. Independence Square is situated 420 metres south of Menara DBKL 1.

Jamek Mosque, officially Sultan Abdul Samad Jamek Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is located at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers and may be accessed via Jalan Tun Perak. Jamek Mosque is situated 440 metres southeast of Menara DBKL 1.
