Springs is a former independent city that is now part of the City of Ekurhuleni, based in the east of Johannesburg, in Gauteng Province, South Africa. It lies 50 km east of Johannesburg and 72 km southeast from Pretoria. Springs is situated 3½ km west of Strubenvale.

It was established in 1951 when Africans were forcibly removed from Payneville because it was considered by the apartheid government to be too close to a white town.
