Joint Security Area

The Joint Security Area is the only portion of the Korean Demilitarized Zone where North and South Korean forces stand face-to-face. The JSA is used by the two Koreas for diplomatic engagements and, until March 1991, was also the site of military negotiations between North Korea and the United Nations Command. Joint Security Area is situated 230 metres west of KPA Barrack.

The Phanmun Pavilion is a North Korean building located in the northern part of the Joint Security Area in Panmunjom. Built in September 1969, the building functions as North Korea's equivalent to the House of Freedom which is located 80 metres to the south, on the South Korean side of the Military Demarcationㄹ기ㅁw정으ㄴ돼대지 Line. Panmon Hall is situated 100 metres south of KPA Barrack.

Bridge of No Return

Located in the Joint Security Area, the so-called "Bridge of No Return" crosses the Military Demarcation Line between North Korea and South Korea. Bridge of No Return is situated 650 metres west of KPA Barrack.

Panmunjeom, also P'anmunjŏm, is on the demarcation line between North and South Korea. It is a living relic of the Cold War era. It can only be visited on an organized tour.

Daeseong-dong is a village in South Korea close to the North Korean border. It lies within the Korean Demilitarized Zone. The village is about 1.6 kilometres south of the Bridge of No Return, and 12 km from the city of Kaesong, North Korea.
