Akropolis

Die Akropolis in Athen ist die wohl bekannteste Vertreterin der als Akropolis bezeichneten Stadtfestungen des antiken Griechenlands. Die Athener Akropolis mit ihren bemerkenswerten Gebäuden wird deshalb oft einfach „die Akropolis“ genannt.

Der ist der Tempel für die Stadtgöttin Pallas Athena Parthenos auf der Athener Akropolis. Er wurde zum Dank für die Rettung der Athener und Griechen durch die Göttin nach dem letzten Perserkrieg als dorischer Peripteros erbaut.

Das ist ein Tempel im ionischen Baustil auf der Akropolis in , der etwa zwischen 420 und 406 v. Chr. erbaut wurde. Die Konzeption geht vielleicht auf Perikles zurück, der aber zu Baubeginn bereits verstorben war.

Der , auch Areiopag, ist ein nordwestlich der Akropolis gelegener, 115 Meter hoher Felsen mitten in . In der Antike tagte hier der oberste Rat, der gleichfalls „Areopag“ genannt wurde.
