The Syrian Desert is a vast and sparsely populated region in southeastern . It is the basin of the river Euphrates. It consists of the governorates of Raqqa, Al-Hasakah, Deir ez-Zor and parts of the governorates of Homs, Hama and Rif Dimashq.
